A Conversation with JUN0
Alicia: Your music journey has been quite the eventful one, can you tell me where it all began and what made you go with the music path?
JUN0: I started walking down the path of music because I happened to come across it because of my relative's younger brother. After that, I decided to do music as a hobby and do music properly while serving in the military That's why I came to Seoul after I was discharged from the military
Alicia: Would you say that creating music is something you’ve always wanted to do?
JUN0: I think I should say yes of course :) I think it was my dream at that time to come to Seoul and do music
Alicia: Going into your release ‘U&I’ with fellow artist Aiden. How was it collaborating with him?
JUN0: I think we worked on it in a good mood. We both enjoyed listening to the pop genre, so when I worked on it, I think it went smoothly and had no troubles.
Alicia: What is the story behind your recent release ‘U&I’?
JUN0: The background of u&I's song is a song that describes the way JUN0 and AIDEN express their love according to their personalities.
Alicia: With this new release, did you have any difficulties recording or creating the track?
JUN0: There wasn't anything difficult when recording, but I think there were a lot of difficulties in the track part. The friend who made the U&I track lives in the U.S., so I think the communication problem was a bit difficult because of the time difference.
Alicia: When it comes to creating new songs what inspires you the most? Is it personal experiences, movies, or imagination?
JUN0: Of course, there are parts of inspiration that I got from personal experience, but I think I usually get inspiration by creating characters and situations by imagining them
Alicia: How long does it usually take you to write a song?
JUN0: It depends on the track, but... If I get a track that I'm confident in, it takes about 2 to 3 days or 1 week, and if I get a challenging track, I think it takes about 1 to 2 weeks.
Alicia: Can you explain what your creative process looks like?
JUN0: I work a lot by myself because it's hard to work when someone is around. I think I pick a theme and then write the melody according to the track's atmosphere.
Alicia: For future music, are you trying to venture out, or what genre would you say you're aiming for?
JUN0: Now, I'm taking risks for my musical growth. Of course, I'm still doing the genre I can do well, but now I'm trying challenging and adventurous music because I want to let my fans hear my music which is more mature than before.
Alicia: Regarding goals as an artist, what would you say your goals are for this year and the future?
JUN0: This year's goal is to let a small number of listeners know the name of the artist JUN0 and go to the festival. My goal for the future may be too big, but I'm trying hard to get the top spot in the music charts on the Korean music platform.
Alicia: As an artist, what would you say has been your greatest accomplishment so far?
JUN0: I don't think I've achieved any big achievements yet. I'm still in the beginning, and I think I can look forward to the big achievements in the future because I'm showing them to the public.
Alicia: Which of your songs would you say best describes you as an artist?
JUN0: . The music that best expresses the artist JUN0 is called "Honestly, I don’t need love anymore."
Alicia: For future work, is there any artist you would like to collaborate with or have on one of your next projects?
JUN0: A lot of our team members went into the next project. Of course, it's good to work with famous artists, but I think I'm still lacking a lot, so I think it'll be better to ask for it when I grow more.
Alicia: As an upcoming artist, what would you like people to think when they hear “JUN0”?
JUN0: When people who listen to music think of an artist named JUN0, I want them to think "That artist's song has a lot of genres, so there are many things to listen to” or I'd really appreciate it if they think of me as an artist with a good tone.
Alicia: As an artist, what would you say has been your biggest challenge?
JUN0: I think my biggest challenge as an artist right now is trying various genres that I haven't tried before, not like the lyrical band sound genre that I usually do.
Alicia: Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
JUN0: I am a fan of European soccer, so I watch soccer or play soccer PC games and I like to shop for clothes.
Alicia: What's the best advice you can give someone trying to go down the path of being an artist?
JUN0: It's a bit embarrassing to answer this question, but dare I say it's helpful to keep a positive mind when doing this musical thing. If you always prepare and prepare for an opportunity that you don't know when it will come, the opportunity will surely come, so don't be disappointed that you can't do it once, and keep the positive mindset mentioned above.
Alicia: Do you have any upcoming projects coming out that you would like to speak about (if you can)
JUN0: I'm working on my first EP right now. I'm going to bring a genre that I've never tried before to face my fans with more mature music. Of course, I'll bring my usual music as well. Please look forward to the next songs and videos!! Thank you for listening to my long story so far!
