Diving In
Alicia: Can you introduce yourselves and tell us a bit about each member’s role in the band?
Low Hanging Fruits: Hello, we are Low Hanging Fruits. We aim to create music that is easy and comfortable for everyone. Although we are just two members, with one of us singing and the other playing the guitar during live performances, we all contribute to composing the songs and recording them, each playing our own instruments. Of course, we also receive a lot of support from external session musicians and fellow friends.
Alicia: How did the band come together? What was the inspiration behind forming the group?
Low Hanging Fruits: Park Han-beom, who plays the guitar, invited his favorite friends from university to join a band. These friends were the most musically ambitious and kind-hearted individuals he knew. He had always wanted to form a team with his own unique style and share it with people once. he grew up. The process of sharing and discovering the musicians we all loved since childhood while finding our own unique sound was truly enjoyable. We also realized that we were a great match for each other through our work on creating demos together.
Alicia: Going into your release of your first single “Leave” what was the inspiration behind that single and what difficulties did you have while recording it?
Low Hanging Fruits: I wanted to convey the story of seeking my true self without being swayed by external influences. I put a lot of thought into creating the nuanced vocal expressions that reflect complex emotions.Interestingly, the recording process for the song went smoothly, but filming the music video was quite challenging. We found and booked an abandoned subway station in the heart of Seoul for the shoot, but unfortunately, it rained heavily that day. The entire process of moving and transporting the equipment was extremely humid and difficult.
Alicia: How do you approach songwriting and composing music? Does each member contribute in a specific way?
Low Hanging Fruits: Our lead single "Leave" was crafted by having Han-beom create the initial track, while Sung-joon added the top-line and synthesizers. We approach each song with different styles, but recently, we have been working by having Han-beom play the guitar and Sung-joon sing, then composing the chords and melody together before arranging it in the studio.
Alicia: What themes or messages do you aim to convey through your music?
Low Hanging Fruits: We always strive to avoid false embellishments or dishonest stories. As a result, there come moments when something from deep within each of us is released. This could range from painful memories to messages of encouragement for others, or reflections on an ambiguous world. It seems that these natural expressions come from our efforts to infuse our music with genuine and honest thoughts about ourselves.
Alicia: Can you describe your creative process for recording an album or preparing for a new release?
Low Hanging Fruits: We frequently meet to brainstorm and explore better ideas. We invite various colleagues who can understand and perform the song well to collaborate and record in the studio. While most of the work is done by the two of us, we also ensure consistency in the images and videos associated with the album to create a unified message and presentation.
Alicia: Which artists or bands have inspired you the most, both locally and internationally?
Low Hanging Fruits: We’ve been influenced by great Korean musicians like ‘Sanulrim’, ‘Seo Taiji’, ‘Nell’, and ‘Light and Salt’. We also love European bands such as Coldplay and Phoenix, as well as American stars like Bruno Mars and LANY.
Alicia: Are there any specific venues or countries where you’d love to perform in the future?
Low Hanging Fruits: We’d love to meet fans from our neighboring countries like Japan and Southeast Asia. Additionally, we’re excited about the idea of performing live on sandy beaches or coastal areas, sharing our music with people enjoying those relaxed, carefree settings.
Alicia: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a musician?
Low Hanging Fruits: I want to convey that in order to express my honest emotions through instruments, voice, and. lyrics, it’s essential to constantly strive to understand the principles of the world. To grasp why this world exists, one must embark on diverse journeys and engage in conversations with many people.
Alicia: How do you handle the pressures and expectations that come with being in the spotlight?
Low Hanging Fruits: First and foremost, it’s crucial that the music I’m creating truly reflects what I want to say. If it’s a genuine story I wish to convey, there’s no pressure or burden to perform perfectly because it’s something I’m genuinely passionate about. When I can act with conviction and authenticity, I’m able to overcome external pressures and challenges.
Alicia: What do you enjoy most about being in a band and working with your fellow members?
Low Hanging Fruits: I appreciate how we offer each other diverse perspectives and create new things from that process. Beyond just musical viewpoints, it's also something to be thankful for to find a few truly good friends in life. I believe it's not easy to find this throughout one's lifetime. Especially in a world where we. often become self-centered, having someone beside you with whom you can progress together motivates me to put in more effort.
Alicia: How do you guys use music to express emotions or experiences that are difficult to put into words?
Low Hanging Fruits: In fact, I find that music often allows me to express emotions and experiences that are difficult to convey in everyday life. I believe this is one of the greatest advantages of music: it enables anyone to sing their heart’s desires. There are no emotions that are too difficult to express. Instead, there are many moments where I feel a sense of freedom through music.
Alicia: What do you hope listeners take away from your music, and how do you achieve that in your work?
Low Hanging Fruits: I hope you don't hate yourself too much and instead learn to appreciate yourself. We also pour such hopes into our music with courage. I believe that everyone has a role to play and a place to be in this society. I wish for you to always keep this in mind and fill every corner of your daily life with positive memories.
Alicia: As artist, what would you like people to think when they hear the name “Low Hanging Fruits”?
Low Hanging Fruits: I don’t have a specific image in mind. I simply hope that listeners find the music intriguing and engaging.
Alicia: Can you share any details about upcoming projects or plans for the band?
Low Hanging Fruits: In September, we will be releasing another lead single, and it looks like our debut studio album will come out in October. Around that time, we plan to participate in festivals in Indonesia and South Korea, and we will also be holding a showcase.
Alicia: Ending the interview off I wanted to say thank you so much and congratulations on the release of ‘Leave”. Now is there any message you want to say to your listeners?
