A Conversation with Pyo
Alicia: You've had an extensive musical journey. What led you to choose this path and where did it begin?
Pyo: I have loved singing since I was in elementary school, so I think I started pursuing music when I entered college at the age of 20! The music I was listening to on my girlfriend's SNS account when I was in 5th grade brought me here.
Alicia: Would you say that creating music is something you’ve always wanted to do?
Pyo: yes I love making music and it’s fun !
Alicia: What is the story behind your recent release ‘Tears On My Hoodie’?
Pyo: I have a lot of friends who are depressed. I feel like I'm going to be depressed when we talk I'm very positive and optimistic, but whenever my friends say that, I always say this “But I can’t even say this anywhere.” “I don’t want to make it obvious that it’s hard.” They try to hide their negative emotions, so they wear their own hoods. I wrote it because I wanted to be able to express all emotions honestly beyond negative emotions!
Alicia: Did you have any difficulties recording or creating the track with this new release?
Pyo: I wanted to make this song by myself without anyone participating in the sound aspect. I tried to arrange it in a different version about 4 times and every time I did it, I didn't like it, so it was mentally difficult..
Alicia: When it comes to creating new songs what inspires you the most? Is it personal experiences, movies, or imagination?
Pyo: It's my personal experience and imagination. These days, when I make a song, I write a song imagining myself on stage or thinking about what video I want this music to be used in!
Alicia: How long does it usually take you to write a song?
Pyo: If it's a song for release, you need to like at least 80% of it from melody composition to lyrics and arrangements. I think it takes about three months. I hope the day comes soon when I can collaborate with artists who are close to each other!
Alicia: Can you explain what your creative process looks like?
Pyo: Whether it's drawings, writing, or videos, I keep looking at things I instinctively do until I feel like doing them. Once that's decided, we start creating the sound! to sum it up It seems like it starts from the chest and ends with the head! Usually, while playing the piano or guitar, I write a melody, arrange it to fit the melody, add lyrics, and record it!
Alicia: Are you trying to venture out for future music, or what genre would you say you're aiming for?
Pyo: I really like house genre these days! I also like ballads that have an atmosphere reminiscent of Disney or Japanese Ghibli music! Now, rather than a genre, I want my music to sound sexy but pure.
Alicia: Regarding goals as an artist, what would you say your goals are for this year and the future?
Pyo: My goal for this year is to continue taking on challenges without getting tired! I want to become an artist who tours internationally. !
Alicia: As an artist, what would you say has been your greatest accomplishment so far?
Pyo: When I heard stories like this, I used to talk about monetary amounts, but now “I have the ability to make music on my own.”
Alicia: Which of your songs would you say best describes you as an artist?
Pyo: I think it might be the song I'm working on now... The title will be EUPHORIA. Please look forward to it!
Alicia: As an upcoming artist, what would you like people to think when they hear “Pyo”?
Pyo: “There’s a guy in Korea who’s really good at what he does.”
Alicia: Where would you like to see yourself as an artist in about five years?
Pyo: I want to do a “PYO” WORLD TOUR!!
Alicia: Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
Pyo: I love traveling! Personally, I like Japan. (I've only been to Japan). So I studied Japanese hard, too! One of the things I'm proud of in my life is that I can speak Japanese. Studying the language is my interest!
Alicia What's the best advice you can give someone trying to go down the path of being an artist?
Pyo: Rather than trying too hard to be good at hitting hard. If you are consistent, you will get better
