A Conversation with Wynn

Alicia: Okay we can go ahead and start!

Wynn: Hello! I’m Wynn from South Korea. I make and sing R&B songs. I’ve done music since 2015 so it’s been a long time. There have been many ups and downs but I’m still alive *laughs*

Alicia: *laughs*

Alicia: What first got you into music?

Wynn: For me well I have liked music since my childhood

Alicia: Ooo okay!

Wynn: So I liked playing piano and listening to all kinds of music. You know in Korea we have the karaoke culture

Alicia: Yeah I’ve heard!

Wynn: Yeah so everybody went to karaoke after school so I was there five days a week

Alicia: Oh okay *laughs*

Wynn: So, I like to sing and I sing a lot and I just remembered that when I hung out with my friends we found some good music and shared it with each other. That is the way I hung out with my friends so naturally I like music.

Alicia: Would you say that creating music was something you know you’ve always wanted to do?

Wynn: Music isn’t what I wanted to do. I just liked it and enjoyed it at the time. I didn’t think that music would be my job or anything like that. I didn’t think about that.

Alicia: What made you want to be an artist and create music?

Wynn: Actually, I had good grades in school but I’m good at just studying. I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to do so I thought just studying was my way at that time. I was 18 years old so I was so confused about my future.

Alicia: Right right

Wynn: At the time I didn’t know what to do or what I wanted to do. I made up my mind that after I went to university. I wanted to choose something that I wanted to do. Literally, music chose me so that's when it all started.

Alicia: Genre wise what would you say is the genre you're aiming for?

Wynn: The genre would be R&B but with a drop of jazz. I like jazz and not all my songs but almost all my songs have a jazz vibe in it.
Alicia: okay okay!

Alicia: When it comes down to goals as an artist what would you say your goals are for this year and the future?

Wynn: My goal this year.. Well, first I’m making my single album so it will be released in June maybe. I have a collaboration with an international artist that I cannot say yet but it’s in progress. I don't know when that song will be released but it is in progress.

Alicia: Perfect!

Alicia: As an artist what would you say has been your greatest accomplishment so far?

Wynn: To me every experience so far has been a good experience. But I would say my first festival stage. It was not that big but my goal was standing on the festival stage with my whole band so I would say that has been my greatest experience.

Alicia: Diving deeper into the creative process. What would you say is the hardest part of creating music?

Wynn: About creating something, the whole process takes work. But for me, the lyrics are really the most difficult. Well, I wanna say it's so important rather than difficult. I think writing lyrics is a process of putting a story into my music and being ready to deliver songs to my listeners. So l take a lot of time for the lyrics.

Alicia: How long does it usually take you to write a song?

Wynn: It’s different for each project but the fastest is in one day. But that doesn’t include the mixing or mastering it’s just the concept, melodies, lyrics, and the direction of the arrangement.

Alicia: Can you tell us more about your recent single ‘Melting’ and the backstory to why you wrote that song?

Wynn: Yeah so the title ‘melting’ means “I’m melting because of you”. There’s no English in that song and my international fans were like “I can’t understand” *laughs* but in Korea, it’s springtime here so the ice is melting and winter is gone so I wanted to express this weather in my song.

Alicia: When it comes down to musical inspirations do you have any group or artist that you get inspiration from?

Wynn: Many artists influence me. Do you know Bruno Major?

Alicia: Yes!! I love Bruno Major

Wynn: All of his songs have a jazz vibe and R&B so I listened to his stuff a lot and sang a lot of his songs. In Korea..do you know Baek Yerin?

Alicia: I do !! She did a song with Tabber called ‘Being’ which I really love.

Wynn: I’ve liked Yerin Baek since I started music (2015 or 2016). She was in a group 15&. Do you know 15&?

Alicia: I don’t

Wynn: Yeah so it was Yerin Baek and Park Jimin. I liked them as a team and now as they do their solo work. So if I have the chance I would love to work with Yerin Baek.

Alicia: So if you were to collaborate with someone in the future you would want it to be Yerin Baek?

Wynn: Yeah!

Alicia: Do you have any upcoming projects other than the single you are working on?

Wynn: I thought my music well how can I say this? My music didn’t get the recognition that I thought it would get. Do you know ‘La La Land’ my song?

Alicia: Yes I do !!!

Wynn: I thought that song was very good but I didn’t promote it well so my plan is before I drop my single I will promote my last song some more.

Alicia: Yes you should! You have a really nice voice it's very soothing. Your music itself is very calming and easy to vibe with.

Alicia: As an upcoming artist, what would you like people to think when they hear the name ‘Wynn’?

Wynn: I hope that they of me as an artist who can easily be taken out and be found anywhere in everyday life so when they go to work, take a rest when they take a walk or go out for a jog. That’s my hope to be an artist that can be played every day. Anywhere in every life.

Alicia: Where do you see yourself in the future? Do you see yourself touring or possibly collaborating with other artists?

Wynn: Actually, I want to do a tour if I can.

Alicia: You should !!

Wynn: It would bring me a lot of happiness to meet fans from around the world.

Alicia: Yeah that would be nice

Wynn: I like to be on stage. I like singing on stage and talking to my fans. I want to go on tour so much

Alicia: Yes you should !! Come to LA, please

Wynn: Yeah I should

Alicia: With the interview coming to an end I wanted to say thank you for letting me interview you and I wanted to ask about future plans. Do you see yourself releasing more music, working on new projects, or just taking time for yourself?

Wynn: I also wanted to say thank you to you! As I said there will be a collaboration with an overseas artist if there is a release date I will send it to you.

Wynn: My single album will be released in June hopefully! I want to say thank you to all my fans for always supporting me and my music.

Alicia: Yes! So I could promote it
